Final Day of Ducking December 2, 2001 Bruce, Travis, Phil, and Tom at Big ??? Park
This was the final hurrah before final day of the 2001 duck season. It was probably a day where you should never assume - because we all thought someone had a duck call. You would think with three duck hunters someone would have a call. The only call we brought was a widgeon call and two goose calls.
In the morning we had a flock of coots fly just out of range and land in the water. Once they took off Phil made a nice shot and bagged a nasty tasting coot. Coot live off fish which makes the meat taste bad. About five minutes later a merganser few right into the blind and Travis hit it with one shot. Although there was speculation that Bruce may of shot the bird. If Bruce shot the bird he would have hit the left side of the bird. If Travis had hit the bird, it would have been in the chest area. Since it was only a merganser we did not bother with the all important bb inspection. As soon as the puddle ducks (Mallard, Wood ducks, etc.) came around we could not hit any of them. |

Although you may think Travis and Phil are acting for their photo shoot during this picture. Actually a flock of 6 Mallards few in range. They decided to miss these mallards and save them for next year. |
